#OccupyTraction

This week, we embraced revolution.

Sure, I'm a bit biased, but I believe we've got something great going on at Traction

However, like any organization we also have room for improvement. And who better to know where Traction has room for improvement than the people who are Traction.

So we had an offsite yesterday that we called #OccupyTraction.

It was a great opportunity for our entire team to get together and talk, be reflective, identify areas for improvement, and come up with actionable ideas to get even better at what we do. The basic goal was to identify the root causes of challenges and put tactics in place to alleviate them.

The format was built around an ebb and flow between breakout groups working on problems and the whole team getting back to get to consolidate and prioritize.

We learned that people want space to collaborate more—and space to put their heads down and get stuff done. We identified some bottlenecks in our workflow, areas where we could benefit from training, processes that could benefit from better documentation and activities that could benefit from better process.

Some of the solutions we came up with:

  • No meetings on Thursdays from 1pm - 6pm
  • Red-light/Green-light LCD switches for people to put on their desk to identify when they don't want to be disturbed
  • A new process for purchase requests
  • Specific items that need to be delegated and specific people they will be delegated to
  • Using the trafficking functionality in our new agency management tool, Workamajig, to manage SOW approvals
  • New collaboration spaces in the new office (we just expanded into a second space down the block)
  • Scheduling the next #OccupyTraction three months from now!

And plenty more. Best of all, the team came up with these solutions—not the management. That means we're all vested in making sure they take place and are implemented successfully.

Personally, I think the exercise was awesome. What can you occupy?
